An introduction into carbine basics, operation and marksmanship.

  • 150 US dollars
  • 8020 Campstool Road (Pilot Travel Center)

Service Description

If you own a carbine (most commonly the AR-15 pattern rifle) and you'd like to become proficient in its use, this is the class for you to begin that journey. We will be discussing the functionality and design characteristics, as well as assembly and disassembly, cleaning, and function testing. Since the weather is unpredictable, we will provide a rimfire conversion for you to use during the live fire portion. If the weather permits, we may shoot centerfire cartridges on the outside range. This allows you to demonstrate the learning objectives we discuss during class time. We would be happy to lend you a rifle for the duration of the class, in the case you don't own one. You will be coached throughout in a calm, friendly way. There will be ample breaks between topics. Speaking of the classroom. THERE IS ZERO LIVE AMMUNITION ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM. This is to ensure our learning environment is safe for everyone. I will make several amnesty requests at various times to keep this from becoming an issue. The best place to keep your firearm and ammunition is in your vehicle. There is a very safe, well-lit parking area with cameras. I know of zero issues of vehicles being tampered with. You will find that the Laramie County Shooting Sports Complex is very well maintained, to include the classrooms, the ranges and the restrooms. There is a breakroom where items can be heated and a sink. Items to bring: A positive attitude, ready to have fun and learn. Plenty of water, small snacks, or small bills for the vending machine. A notepad, a writing utensil, carbine secured in a case or bag, 40 rounds of range ammunition in the proper caliber for your rifle. Note: If you are not bringing your own rifle, please don't worry, we have plenty to share. All we ask is that you furnish 40 rounds of ammunition, preferably in 223/5.56 (no steel core) if you can. If you own your own safety glasses, and hearing protection, you are encouraged to bring it. Otherwise, hearing and eye protection is available to you as part of your class fee. Attire: Long pants, closed toed shoes. A top that covers the neckline (expended brass likes low cut shirts) You are free to wear your prescription glasses as the primary eye protection, however it isn't a bad idea to wear a pair of goggles over to protect them. In 23 years of instruction, I have never had a student become injured (other than minor scrapes/cuts) and I won't let anything bad happen to you!
